Sheffield United supports Level Playing Field

As part of the ongoing work to support their Intermediate Equality Standard the Blades supported the Level Playing Field ‘weeks of action’ with the game against Swindon as their nominated match.

To join the regular disabled supporters Sheffield United invited teams from the Sheffield and Hallamshire Ability Counts League to come to the game as well as representatives from other groups with which they work to promote inclusion.

To further acknowledge Level Playing Field the Guard of Honour was done by members of Spartans FC and St Wilfrid’s wearing special Level Playing Field T shirts.

Kevin Bradley commented, ‘We at St Wilfrid’s appreciate all the support Sheffield United gives us. It was great for us to be involved with the Level Playing Field game. The guys who took part in the Guard of Honour are still walking ten feet tall.’

In a letter to the Club, Mike Stylianou, Head Coach at Spartans FC said, ‘I would like to thank all at Sheffield United FC in allowing our group of players the opportunity of being the flag bearers at Saturday’s match versus Swindon. It was a terrific experience, that was much appreciated and I am sure will live long in the memory of our players.

Sheffield United FC proved once again their commitment to people of all abilities and are truly an inclusive Club, considering all in the community.

The Level Playing Field initiative of allowing and encouraging local disability football clubs free entry to the match was also appreciated by our coaches and helpers who are all volunteers.

Chris Morgan the Club manager minutes away from his first match in charge, with so much at stake, epitomised the values and philosophy of Sheffield United FC by taking time to speak to and hug one of our players.

Thanks again to all at SUFC for making it such a memorable occasion’.
