Accessible Stadia consultation now open

Level Playing Field has launched a four-week consultation on the rewrite of Accessible Stadia, for disabled fans to have input on guidance which will have a dramatic impact on their experiences at live sporting events.

Since the original guidance was published over 20 years ago and the Supplementary Guidance released in August 2015, it has served as the premier guidance for design professionals, stadia operators and other key individuals and organisations in delivering access and inclusion for disabled sports fans and staff at sports stadia.

The consultation follows three years of diligent research, review, discussion and drafting, after Level Playing Field was commissioned to undertake the rewrite of Accessible Stadia. The charity has unparalleled experience on working directly with spectators, venues, and other key stakeholders on improving the matchday experiences of disabled fans and was therefore ideally placed to deliver this project.

Level Playing Field’s general manager & head of access and development, Ruth Hopkins, is leading on the rewrite.

“The second edition of Accessible Stadia presents a vital opportunity to raise standards across sport,” said Hopkins.

“We are grateful to all of the experts that have contributed to the current draft of the rewrite and are now pleased to welcome wider input.

“The importance of disabled fans having a say on guidance which will shape their experiences of live sport for decades to come cannot be overstated.

“I am pleased we are able to extend this opportunity for disabled supporters and industry professionals to share their perspectives.”

The consultation will run until midday on Monday 12 February and is an important part of the rewrite process, to assist with the final phase of the document.
