CAFE ‘s European Week of Action

The Level Playing Field Weeks of Action 2018 again coincided with CAFE’s European Week of Action, with the message of Total Football Total Access being celebrated right across the continent.

The CAFE Week of Action was first established in 2013, as a legacy of CAFE’s works in providing an accessible UEFA EURO 2012 experience in Poland and Ukraine.

Since then, the initiative has grown and activities have taken place all across Europe to promote an accessible and inclusive game for all.

Last season, the CAFE Week of Action was celebrated in 20 countries and the 2018 campaign has spread even further, with countries such as Italy, Romania and Moldova getting involved for the first time.

Highlights from this season’s initiative have included celebrations at FC Barcelona, Celtic and Dinamo Zagreb.

Barcelona hosted a half-time celebration, promoting the CAFE Week of Action on the stadium screens and advertising hoardings. They also published an interview with CAFE’s Media and Communications Manager, Michael Rice, on Barca TV; discussing the importance of the Week of Action initiative.

Amongst a number of activities hosted by the club, Celtic’s players warmed up wearing CAFE Week of Action t-shirts. The shirts were then signed by the players and will be auctioned to raise funds for the club’s disabled supporters association.

Dinamo Zagreb invited a number of local learning disabled people to enjoy a VIP experience at the stadium. Watching the match from the President’s box, they were later joined by two of the club’s high profile players and created memories that will last a lifetime.

Furthermore, a number of high-profile pre-match ceremonies have taken place at football stadiums all across Russia – promoting increased access and inclusion ahead of hosting this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

Activities have also taken place in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and many other countries across Europe and beyond.

Level Playing Field is proud to align the Weeks of Action with the CAFE Week of Action – celebrating #OurMatchday and Total Football #TotalAccess on an international scale.
