First forum in Preston continues tour

The Level Playing Field North Forum went to Preston North End for the first time, with a day of collaboration on accessibility for disabled sports fans.

Lucy Carradice, the disability liaison officer for the hosts, opened proceedings and a presentation from the EFL’s director of equality, diversity and inclusion, David McArdle, brought the event to a conclusion.

Anxiety and mental health specialist, Claire Henson, was welcomed as a guest speaker once again, following positive feedback received from her session at the Level Playing Field Midlands Forum in Worcester.

Discussions were led by Level Playing Field staff throughout the rest of the event and focused on the role of personal assistants/companions.

Disabled fans, club representatives and other key stakeholders, were given the opportunity to Network at Deepdale and gain greater understandings from across the sporting landscape.

Level Playing Field chief executive, Owain Davies, said: “This forum was another success and showed the value of bringing a broad range of perspectives together in one room.

“I am grateful to Claire Henson for the insight she shared once again and to David McArdle for his openness and the time he provided to attendees individually.

“Our thanks also goes to everyone at Preston North End who helped us stage such a successful forum.

“We continue to get strong feedback from these events, and it was positive to see a blend of perspectives, knowledge bases, experiences and sports present.

“We now look forward to concluding this regional forum tour, and in the meantime will shortly be announcing details of an online forum, where we can look to explore other subjects and bring people together from across England & Wales.”
