The Blind Faithful – What is it like to be a blind football fan?

Tonight (6th October) on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport there will be a special programme on what it’s like to be a blind football fan.

‘The Blind Faithful’, which airs at 9pm, explores how blind fans follow, engage and enjoy the game despite not seeing the action unfold in front of them. The includes the technology available to blind and partially sighted fans, as well as the feeling of community and inclusion that going to a football match can bring.

We have previously featured stories on the fan experience of blind and partially sighted football fans such as Audrey Dyson, a loyal Yeovil fan who never misses a game, and LPF member Jeff Newall, who praised the audio descriptive commentary service available at Rotherham

Below you can watch a short preview of ‘The Blind Faithful’, featuring Arsenal fan Wayne Busbridge who speaks about his experiences as a blind football fan, and how he enjoys going to games as an equal “part of a community”.
