Thank you disabled supporters’ associations for 2023

Level Playing Field’s fans liaison officer, Liam Bird, has expressed his gratitude for the dedicated work of disabled supporters’ associations throughout 2023.

This year has seen the development of a number of new disabled supporters’ associations (DSAs), while more than 60 already running across England and Wales have proved instrumental in improving matchday experiences for their fellow disabled fans.

Liam said: “Everyone at Level Playing Field is extremely grateful to the disabled supporters’ associations which have helped drive accessibility and inclusion forwards this year.

“Their dedication and tireless efforts have a hugely significant impact on the lives of disabled fans at a local level, but also serves as inspiration for new DSAs starting out at other clubs.

“At Level Playing Field, this year’s successes through the third annual survey, in-person and virtual forums, our behind-the-scenes efforts, and the inaugural Unite For Access campaign would have had far less impact without the support of disabled supporters’ associations across England and Wales.

“The collaborative relationships we have with DSAs bring out the best in us and by working together we have not only amplified the voices of disabled sports fans but have also laid the groundwork for positive change within the footballing community.

“I am excited to see what we can achieve together in 2024 and wish all DSA members a Happy New Year.”

Disabled supporters’ associations are user-led disabled representative groups, that aim to have a unifying voice to raise awareness for their fellow disabled fans.

They work towards building stronger relationships and effective ongoing communication with their clubs and non-disabled fans.
